Study of Hawaiʻi suicide rates by occupation calls for attention to supporting farmers

A new study led by Thao Le of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR) and retired epidemiologist Dan Galanis with Hawaiʻi State Department of Health Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention System Branch has revealed how occupational context is associated with suicide risk in Hawaiʻi, particularly occupations where people experience chronic uncertainty and low control. The paper is published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
